MOUNDSVILLE — Marshall County Schools students were recognized for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom during this week’s board of education meeting.

The Sherrard Middle School Cheerleading Squad was congratulated for their PAC 8 Championship win. The John Marshall High School Golf and Volleyball teams were recognized for their great seasons. The Cameron High School Football Team and JM’s Cross Country Team also were congratulated. All the coaches commended the student-athletes’ hard work and dedication throughout their seasons.

JM student-athlete Kaylee White received a certificate of recognition for her WVSSAC 2025 Academic Achievement Award. White plays volleyball, basketball and softball and scored a 1410 on the SAT. JM student Drew Marling also won the WVSSAC 2025 Academic Achievement Award. He plays golf, basketball and baseball. He was the state history bowl champion and Golden Horseshoe winner. The awards were based on their achievements during the 2024-25 school year.

Sherrard Cheer Coach Emily Crow expressed her and the team’s thanks for the board’s certificate.

“I appreciate this recognition. This is amazing. They work so hard. People don’t understand what cheerleaders go through. So I really, really appreciate this recognition. Thank you,” she said.

Board member Duane Miller introduced the JM volleyball team, which includes his daughter senior Nia Miller. He noted the team was Region 1 champions. Coach Chelsea Eikleberry talked about the team’s hard work and poise on and off the court.

“These students represented John Marshall and Marshall County with class and grace. Everywhere we go everybody has nothing but good things to say about them,” she said. “I had an extremely exciting season coaching them and I’m proud of them.”

Cameron football coach Tim Brown said his team persevered through injuries and other obstacles and still played a great season.

“The last team that they beat, Wahama, won 25 games in a row; they were state champs, undefeated last year. They were undefeated up until the point these guys played them this year,” Brown noted. “Just to see the dedication and the desire and the team work and the positive communication that they displayed play after play was really humbling. They grew up so much and did so well.”

Brown said he was proud of and amazed by the team. He also thanked the community for its support.
