More Local Candidates File For West Virgina Offices

While new filings were fewer for Northern Panhandle candidates on Tuesday, a pair of incumbents made official that they were running for their state seats again.

According to the West Virginia Secretary of State website, both Del. Jeff Stephens, R-Marshall, and Del. Charles Sheedy, R-Marshall, filed to run for reelection Tuesday. Stephens is running in District 6, while Sheedy is running in District 7.

Stephens is running for his second term, having joined the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2024. Sheedy is running for his third term. He joined the House of Delegates in 2022 and won reelection in 2024.

Another interesting candidate filing came in Huntington, where former Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Miller officially filed to run for West Virginia Senate for the seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Mike Woelfel.

Miller — son of U.S. Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va. and owner of Dutch Miller Auto Group in southern West Virginia –finished third in the 2024 Republican gubernatorial primary behind current Gov. Patrick Morrisey and current U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Moore Capito.
