Ohio County Schools To Host ‘Tiny Patriots’ Event This Weekend
The tiniest and youngest members of the community and their families are invited to come learn about Ohio County Schools this weekend.
A gathering for future “Tiny Patriots” is set to happen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ohio County Public Library.
Parents will get the opportunity to meet administration from the Ohio County Schools Central Office – who will be present to answer questions about school registration, nutrition, transportation and curriculum, according to Karin Butyn, public relations director for Ohio County Schools.
The event will also feature vendors representing community organizations geared toward helping families with small children, she continued. Among those expected to be present are The Health Plan, WVU Medicine, Birth To Three, YWCA Wheeling and Northern Panhandle Head Start.
In addition, Wheeling Park High School therapy dog “Parker” will be there to greet visitors.
The event is open to the general public and is geared to children newborn to age 5. Registration is requested, but not required. The application is available through Ohio County Schools social media pages.
“Last year we had about 200 individuals, including the kids and their family members,” she said. “We anticipate more this year.”
As parents learn about the school system, the library also will have activities for the youngsters upstairs. Butyn explained there will be a storytime event, as well as crafting opportunities.
When a youngster starts school it can be both exciting and overwhelming to students, Butyn continued.
“Our overall hope is to bring our new and returning families some peace and clarity to the registration process,” she said.
