Seven Have Applied in Second Round of Steubenville City Manager Search

Steubenville has received seven applications for its city manager job in the first week since the position was re-advertised, Councilman at large Joel Walker said Wednesday.

Walker said five of the current crop of applicants hail from Ohio, one from Pennsylvania and one from West Virginia. He said three of the seven candidates had submitted applications during the first round of the job search, which ended prematurely 10 days ago after the two applicants they’d invited for second interviews withdrew their names.

The opening was immediately re-advertised, but were able to use the less stringent educational requirements approved by voters in November.

“As of now it doesn’t seem that the changes have affected the results,” he said.

Walker said he’s “very happy” with the interest, adding they hope to have a replacement for City Manager Jim Mavromatis, who plans to retire in March though he has indicated he’ll stay on a little longer if need be. The city will accept applications through Jan. 30.

Starting at $2.99/week.
