Wheeling Now Accepting CDBG Applications From Local Nonprofits

The City of Wheeling’s Department of Economic and Community Development is inviting public service agencies to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30.

According to Economic and Community Development Director Nancy Prager, proposed projects must address at least one of the CDBG program’s three national objectives: providing a direct benefit to low- and moderate-income individuals, assisting with the prevention or elimination of slum or blight or responding to an urgent community development need.

Application packets may be picked up at the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline Street, Room 302, or downloaded from the City of Wheeling’s website at https://tinyurl.com/uu4jayy7.

Prager emphasized that applicants must carefully follow all instructions outlined in the guidelines. Proposals that do not comply with the specified requirements will be returned, and the submitting non-profit organization will be disqualified from consideration during this funding cycle. In addition, requests should be limited to supplies or activity-related costs that directly support the agency’s services.

Applications seeking administrative or general operating expenses will not be considered.

Agencies seeking additional information or clarification should contact the Office of Economic and Community Development at 304-234-3701.

The Community Development Block Grant program is administered locally by the City of Wheeling and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These federal funds are awarded annually to support projects that strengthen neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life throughout the community.

Starting at $2.99/week.
