United Way, Expand Energy Partnering To Launch Relief Fund

WHEELING – Expand Energy today announced the launch of the Expand Energy Relief Fund, a new initiative created in partnership with United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley to provide financial assistance for home energy expenses to individuals and families in need. To establish the fund, Expand Energy has committed an initial $50,000 donation.

The Expand Energy Relief Fund is designed to help ensure that no family has to choose between staying warm and meeting other essential needs. Funds will be distributed through United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley’s 211 Program to support households facing financial hardship due to rising energy costs.

“Access to safe, reliable energy is essential to the well-being of our communities,” said Stephanie Paluda, community relations manager of Expand Energy. “Through the Expand Energy Relief Fund, and with the trusted partnership of United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley, we are proud to invest in solutions that provide comfort, stability, and peace of mind for families who need it most.”

United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley will administer the fund and work directly with community partners to identify eligible individuals and families.

“This partnership allows us to address a critical and growing need in our region,” said Staci Stephen, executive director of United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley. “We are grateful for Expand Energy’s leadership and generosity, which will make a meaningful difference for households struggling with home energy costs like the most recent couple that we were able to help through the fund.

“A couple contacted the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley office stating they had been without propane for three months. During that time, they relied on electric heaters, which were manageable until extreme cold weather hit. At that point, the heaters could no longer keep up, and their home became dangerously cold.

“The husband was forced to stop working recently due to serious health issues. The household lost its second income, while medical bills continued to rise. The increased electricity costs from running space heaters, combined with fuel costs for the wife to commute to work, and everyday living expenses, made it impossible for them to save enough money to meet the minimum propane delivery requirement.

“The family is now warm in their home with a full propane tank–something the client shared they have not had in years, as they previously could only afford the minimum delivery amount. This assistance provided immediate relief, safety, and dignity during a critical time.”

The fund’s tagline, “Together, We Keep Families Warm,” reflects the shared commitment of Expand Energy and United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley to strengthen the community and support those facing energy insecurity, she added.
