MOUNDSVILLE – The City of Moundsville is gearing up for a new street paving season with about $750,000 available for the work this season.

City Manager Rick Healy said most of the paving will occur on streets that did not get paved on last season’s list.

“The remainder of the paving list for last year has been measured and estimated by the engineer,” he told council during a recent meeting. “The total is almost $800,000, before we add any new streets or accommodate any concrete repairs.”

He added that the final list still is not complete.

“Public Works Director Lewis DeVault and I are currently reviewing to see if any adjustments can be made. If not, we will put all out to bid and do as much as we can. That being said, there is no room for new streets this year,” he said.

Healy said each year a list is developed with input from members of council, himself and the public works director.

“It is then prioritized by the city manager and public works director,” he said. “As noted, we have many streets from last year still not completed. We have $750,000 budgeted, but that has to cover the soft costs (engineering), and any concrete street we choose to complete. We will do as many as we can complete within budget.”

Meanwhile, during a recent city manager report to council, Healy said work on the new municipal building is moving along with the help of recent fair weather. He said the new elevator has arrived.

“It will not be completed this month. Furniture is being delivered April 20. Move in will likely be in May,” he said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
