WPD Investigates Death On Wheeling Island

The Wheeling Police Department is investigating a death on Wheeling Island, according to spokesman Philip Stahl.

Around 7:40 a.m. Friday, Wheeling Police were called to the 300 block of South Huron Street on Wheeling Island for a report of an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk. When officers and fire department personnel arrived, the man was confirmed to be dead.

Foul play is not suspected. Additional information is not available at this time as detectives continue to investigate.

Ohio Co. GOP Holding Candidate Meet And Greet

The Ohio County Republican Executive Committee is inviting the public to come meet the GOP candidates on the Ohio County ballot in the May 2026 primary election.

The committee is hosting a “Meet and Greet” set for March 26 at The Scottish Rite Cathedral. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the program set to begin at 6 p.m.

Each candidate will get an opportunity to deliver their platform in a timed speech. The Ohio County Executive Committee is offering this as an educational tool for constituents to learn more about the candidates who are running to represent them. A $20 donation is requested, and there will be appetizers and refreshments available.

Slip Repair Happening In Tyler County

A portion of Tyler County Route 13 (Indian Creek Road) near Blue at milepost 1.55 has been restricted to one narrow lane beginning Friday for a slip repair. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route. Traffic will be maintained by temporary signage. Local traffic only. As an alternate route, use County Route 23 (McElroy Creek) to County Route 64 (Braden Hill).

Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

Fiber Optic Installation Scheduled In Tyler County

A portion of W.Va. 23 (McElroy Creek Road) in Alma from milepost 6.0 to milepost 8.75 will be restricted to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Tuesday, March 17, through early May for fiber optic installation. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and expect delays.

PTO Hosting Art Gala

The Cross Creek Elementary PTO will host its first Art Gala, an adults-only evening dedicated to celebrating student creativity and bringing the community together through the arts. The event will take place Saturday, March 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School (JVS) and is open to community members 18 years and older.

Guests will enjoy a lively evening featuring music, dancing, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a photo booth, a basket raffle and a silent auction showcasing original artwork created by Cross Creek Elementary students. The event provides a unique opportunity for community members to support young artists while enjoying a fun night out.

The Art Gala highlights the importance of arts education and community engagement, while giving students the chance to see their creativity celebrated beyond the classroom.

The evening is open to the entire community and all proceeds from the event will support student programs and future creative opportunities at Cross Creek Elementary.
