Fluharty To Appear On PBS Show

Del. Shawn Fluharty, D-Ohio, will appear at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the PBS program “Breaking the Deadlock.” The program is designed to encourage civil dialogue at a time when conversation is polarized. The series brings together a varied panel of prominent voices from the legal, political and cultural arenas to explore ethical dilemmas drawn from real life.

Tuesday’s episode deals with online sports gambling. Fluharty, head of governmental affairs at Play n’GO, joins a panel that includes sitting U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., former NFL player Tiki Barber, MS NOW’s Stephanie Rhule, ESPN’s Anita Marks and others.

Ohio Co. GOP Hosting Candidate Meet and Greet

The Ohio County Republican Executive Committee is inviting the public to come meet the GOP candidates on the Ohio County ballot in the May 2026 primary election.

The committee is hosting a “Meet and Greet” set for March 26 at The Scottish Rite Cathedral. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the program set to begin at 6 p.m.

Each candidate will get an opportunity to deliver their platform in a timed speech. The Ohio County Executive Committee is offering this as an educational tool for constituents to learn more about the candidates who are running to represent them.

A $20 donation is requested, and there will be appetizers and refreshments available.

Quarter auction to benefit fair

WELLSBURG — A quarter auction to benefit the Brooke County Fair will be held April 19 at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., with the bidding to begin at 1:30 p.m. The event also will include drawings, food for sale and free prizes.

Admission is $5, which includes one paddle for bidding. Additional paddles will be available for $1 each at the door.

Those who purchase tickets before April 1 will be entered into a special prize drawing. Seats will be reserved for groups of six or more who purchase advance tickets.

The tickets may be purchased at the Brooke Hills Park clubhouse, brookecountyfair.com, from any fair committee member or at the door.

Part of Halls Road to close

A portion of Brooke County Route 1/7 (Halls Road) in Colliers from milepost 1.0 to milepost 1.72 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning on Monday, March 23, through Wednesday, March 25, for tree trimming. Emergency vehicles and school buses will be accommodated. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect delays.

Alternate routes include County Route 12 (Mechling Hill Road) or County Route 27 (Eldersville Road).

Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.
