Salvation Army To Reopen Wheeling Thrift Store
After significant changes made, the Salvation Army’s Wheeling Thrift Store will reopen starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
According to Lt. John Lawrence, the store has undergone major changes including to its layout, hours of operation and staffing model.
“While some of the rennovations are still underway we feel confident that you will immediately notice the changes before you walk into the store,” Lawrence said.
New signage at the front of the store points toward the parking lot located on the right side of the store. Signs showing the new days and hours are located at the store entrance.
The Wheeling store and the Moundsville Service Center will both be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday going forward. The extra hour in the morning will help early-bird shoppers, while the extra three hours on Saturday will allow people to come in and shop longer for special items.
The Wheeling store will no longer be open on Mondays, but Lawrence said the earlier hours throughout the week and later hours on Saturdays will make up for that missed shopping time on Mondays and allow the Salvation Army to keep both the Moundsville and Wheeling Stores on the same schedule.
The Salvation Army’s food pantry also will undergo changes Lawrence belives will benefit more people dealing with food insecurity. The Moundsville Service Center Food Pantry is already welcoming walk-ins on Thursdays and the Wheeling Food Pantry will now welcome walk-ins on Mondays rather than by appointment only. Lawrence said the Salvation Army will always provide food for emergency situations to those unable to make an appointment as time permits.
A grand reopening celebration is in the plans in the coming weeks, Lawrence said.
