WHEELING – Helping Heroes, a local organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans, is slated to host its annual fundraiser, A Night To Remember, on May 8 at Wheeling Park’s skating rink.
Jeremy Harrison, co-founder of Helping Heroes, said the steak fry is slated from 5:30-10 p.m. and will include one’s choice of a 10-ounce ribeye steak or chicken breast, salad, baked potato, rolls and a drink. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the Helping Heroes office, 41 22nd Street, Wheeling; at the American Legion Post 3 in Moundsville; at Happy Tails in McMechen; or online at https://www.etix.com/ticket/. The deadline to purchase tickets is noon May 6; tickets cannot be purchased at the door.
“This is our 13th year for this fundraiser, A Night To Remember,” Harrison said. “Oftentimes we get people who need assistance, but don’t meet the criteria of the grants we have. Someone might need a place to stay or gas for their car. We can use the money for things like that and some of it eventually will go toward the new building.”
Harrison noted renovation work on their new building on 16th Street is currently at a standstill. They are still waiting for a deal to sell the building’s historic tax credits. He said the paperwork is ready and signed, but a final closing still needs to happen.
Meanwhile, Helping Heroes will continue to help homeless veterans from its current, temporary location.
“Our numbers continue to increase every year still,” he added.
Regarding the steak fry, people are asked to bring their own plates, cups and utensils. There will be a 50-50 drawing, basket raffles, prize wheels, a silent auction, music by DJ Bear and more. Texas Roadhouse is preparing the food.
