GLEN DALE — Marshall County Schools’ top teacher, principal, counselor and service personnel member were all revealed during Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

The Teacher of the Year award was given to Rebecca Fox, who teaches English at Sherrard Middle School. Fox also won this same award while teaching at Cameron High School. She was also a two-time nominee for the Rita Takach Reading Teacher of the Year award.

The Principal of the Year award was given to Katie Dantrassy, who is principal at Central Elementary School. She has served as an administrator for 10 years. Before Central Elementary, she served as assistant principal of John Marshall High School for six years. She has been a National Board-certified teacher for 15 years.

The Service Personnel of the Year award was given to Garrett Osborne, an instructional aide at McNinch Primary School. Osborne is originally from Tennessee. He and his wife decided to move to Moundsville after a coin toss between Moundsville and Bentonville, Arkansas.

The Counselor of the Year award was given to Jennifer Pickett, a school counselor at McNinch Primary School. Pickett, a licensed professional counselor, has worked for the district for 21 years, serving as a counselor at McNinch for 17 years.

Each category had several nominees for employees to choose from and vote on. Superintendent Shelby Haines noted that the principal and counselor awards were new categories this year.

“We allowed them to be voted on by their peers,” she said.

All the nominees in each category were also given certificates of recognition before the final awardees were announced. Board members stood at the front of the room to shake hands and congratulate each person.
