‘America and Art – Celebrating Our 250th Founding Through Art’ to go on display in Weirton

WEIRTON — The Top of West Virginia Arts Council invites artists to show their interpretation of the nation’s founding and history through their work.

“America and Art — Celebrating Our 250th Founding Through Art” caters to visual artists working in any medium. Each artist may submit up to four pieces of original work. No prints or mass-produced works will be accepted. Participants must be 18 or older and may submit their pieces online at Top of WV Arts Council submission page

no later than Wednesday.

The opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 28 at the Summit Art Gallery.

Awards will be offered for first, second and third place, as well as two honorable mentions.

The exhibit’s juror is Zane Miller of Wheeling, an interdisciplinary artist who creates works using photography, painting and installation. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and technology from Allegheny College in 2009 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2017. His work has been shown at spaces including Beeler Gallery, the Columbus Museum of Art and the Fed Galleries, as well as multiple solo installations at Clientele. Recently, his artistic practice has focused on exploring perception to better understand the detailed nature of experience.

“America and Art — Celebrating Our 250th Founding Through Art” will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, May 28 through July 6, with the gallery closed July 4. The Arts Council’s gallery and retail items also will be open to visitors during this time.
