Red Cross offering local training sessions

The American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley will be holding a pair of short training sessions for those interested in becoming volunteers. One will be held Wednesday, May 20, from 10 a.m.-noon at the ECO Center at 68332 Bannock Road, St Clairsville. Another will be held Thursday, May 21 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Wheeling Armory at 25 Armory Drive in Wheeling. At both sessions, those interested can chat with current Disaster Action Team volunteers and staff, complete their volunteer applications and start and complete their training.

According to the American Red Cross, 90% of the American Red Cross workforce are volunteers, neighbors helping neighbors through emergencies like fires and floods. American Legion Post 1 holding Memorial Day ceremony at new location

The American Legion Post 1 will be moving the location of its annual Memorial Day ceremony. The new location will be at the Post’s headquarters at 45 Sycamore Ave. in Wheeling, rather than Wheeling’s Heritage Port, where it had been held in previous years.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the Post 1 headquarters.

Polish Heritage Day coming June 7

The Polish American Patriot Club will hold its Polish Heritage Day celebration starting at noon, June 7. The celebration will open with a Polish Mass at the PAP Club’s outdoor pavilion at noon. At 1 p.m. the celebration will move into the PAP Club until 6 p.m. for an afternoon of Polish food, polka music and more.

Food is $20 a plate and will include kielbasa, pierogies, cabbage rolls, dessert and one free drink ticket. For more information, call Ed Gorczyca at 304-232-1752.

Belmont College to Host Education Programs Open House

Belmont College will host an Education Programs Open House at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, in Dowler Hall at the College’s Main Campus.

The event is designed for individuals interested in exploring careers in teaching and early childhood education. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about Belmont College’s Early Childhood Education and Teacher Education programs and discover the pathways available to begin or advance a career in education.

During the open house, guests will hear program overview presentations, receive information about financial aid opportunities, and participate in a guided tour of the Main Campus. Faculty and staff will also be available to answer questions and discuss program options.
