Irish Eyes on the Prize: Hibernians Award Scholarships to Area Students
The Wheeling Ancient Order of Hibernians Division No. 1 awarded four $1,000 scholarships in May to area students in recognition of academics, extracurricular involvement, Catholic faith and essays on Irish ancestry.
Recipients, pictured from left, were Wheeling Central’s Luke Zoeckler, Kaitlin Brodegard and Alyssa Parker and Wheeling Park’s Bridget Zoeckler.
Luke will attend West Virginia University to study accounting. Kaitlin plans to attend Marshall University with an interest in healthcare and medicine. Alyssa will attend West Virginia University to study exercise physiology and Bridget will attend Marshall University to study mathematics, English and law.
Alyssa and Luke were also recipients of the Cole Bertol Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of a Wheeling Central graduate and West Virginia University student who died unexpectedly.
