Moundsville Gearing Up For July Fourth Festivities

MOUNDSVILLE – The city of Moundsville is gearing up for its July 4th celebration and the United States’ 250th birthday.

The party will actually kick off a day early with a 7 p.m. July 3 concert at the Strand Theatre, 811 Fifth St., featuring Bad Moon Rising, which is a John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band. The cost is $20; tickets can be purchased at the Strand Theatre or at Frame & Fortunes, 239 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville.

On July 4, the day will begin with the America 250 Fun Run & Walk, aka the Tom Sutton Memorial Fun Run/Walk.

The 1-mile event begins at 9 a.m. at the Four Seasons Pool parking lot. Registration costs $10; call 304-845-7733.

“Everyone is welcome. Strollers are welcome and dogs on a leash,” according to city information.

Later in the day, a Fourth of July parade will be held starting at 4 p.m. in the downtown. Participants can line up at 3 p.m. The parade route will be on Jefferson Avenue between Eighth and Second Streets.

People of all ages are welcomed to participate including those riding bicycles. Parade prizes will be awarded to Oldest Fire Truck, Newest Fire Truck, Best Appearing Fire Truck, Best Looking Ambulance, Farthest Traveled Fire Truck, Chief’s Choice, Best Bicycle, Most Patriotic, Best Appearing Vehicle and Best Business Representation. And a fireworks display will be held at dusk or about 9:45 p.m.
