MOUNDSVILLE -- Work to complete the new Moundsville Municipal & Safety Building is progressing, according to Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy.

"Things are moving forward. We've had a lot of progress during the last six months," he said. "They are working hard to complete the concrete and the paving within the next month."

Most areas inside the building are complete.

"They're waiting for one critical piece coming in at the end of this month. It's a shutter that goes over the dispatch area that is a fire protection shutter. If the fire alarm goes off the shutter closes automatically and seals off the dispatch area," Healy said.

He noted the recent heat wave has not affected the workers' schedule.

"They're working regular hours; there's no issue with that. ... At this point we still have an Aug. 10 move-in date, but it is in flux a little bit," he said.

The new $12.5 million building will house the city offices, police department and fire department.

It also will feature a drive-through for bill payments. The existing city building will be razed to make way for a new parking lot.

Work began in 2022, but there were some construction-related delays. Then the project’s former contractor, &build, filed for bankruptcy, bringing the project to a halt for several months. Great Lakes Restoration LLC was announced as the new contractor in October 2024.
