Those interested in helping students in need throughout the Ohio Valley have a strong start to their school year can do so Saturday at Bethlehem Apostolic Temple in Wheeling.
The church will hold a “stuff the bus” event from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the church, collecting school supplies and more to distribute Aug. 8 at the North Wheeling Dream Center.
The church is seeking notebooks, pens, pencils, book bags and any other school-related items that make learning more fun and exciting for students.
While school supplies are at the forefront of the fall collection, the church is also collecting food items for families. Unlike other distribution events sponsored by the church, food items aren’t the primary focus of the back-to-school event but are still needed, according to Bishop Darrell Cummings.
Cummings and the Bethlehem Apostolic Church have been doing holiday and back-to-school giveaways since 1990. Their goal with the upcoming event is to assist at least 500 students and their families.
