WHEELING -- Bingo players will have an opportunity to have fun, support a local organization and possibly win a basket of prizes or a $500 coverall Saturday.
Crittenton Services will host its annual bingo and basket raffle beginning at noon Saturday at St. Vincent dePaul Church in Elm Grove. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Packets cost $20 and can be purchased through a link on Crittenton's Facebook page or at the door Saturday.
Typically, 100 to 130 people attend the annual fundraiser, but sales of the packets "is a little slower" this year, according to Nathan Blake, marketing and development manager for Crittenton Services.
"Everybody is struggling, but I still expect us to still have a pretty good showing," he said.
Money raised goes into the organization's general operating fund. Blake said the money is especially important as Crittenton embarks on a construction project to build two cottage homes to house more pregnant teens and young women with babies at its facilities.
There will be 20 bingo games played at the event. Local businesses and donors from around the area put together themed baskets that will be awarded as prizes to bingo winners.
Some of the themed baskets include car-cleaning baskets, movie night treats and items for book lovers, according to Blake.
"Before each game, we will let them know the basket that will be the prize and the sponsor," he said. "If they win that bingo, they will win that basket."
The final game will be a coverall bingo with a $500 prize sponsored by Wheeling Tire.
"We get a lot of people asking how they can help," Blake said. "For the average everyday Joe on the street, (playing bingo) is a great way to make an impact and have fun doing it."
Crittenton Services provides residential care for girls and young women, specializing in those who are pregnant or parenting. The residential program welcomes clients from throughout West Virginia. It is the only licensed residential care facility in the state providing adolescent maternity care.
