Hancock County To Seek Proposals For New Courthouse X-ray Machine

NEW CUMBERLAND - Hancock County commissioners are seeking an upgrade to the security systems at the main entrance to the county courthouse.
During the regular commission meeting Friday morning, commissioners unanimously agreed to advertise a request for proposal for the purchase of a new X-ray machine.
"This will be for the lobby in the courthouse," Commission President Eron Chek said.
The entrance to the Hancock County Courthouse has an existing X-ray machine, where visitors are asked to submit their belongings for scanning before being allowed entrance.
It is staffed by a civilian division of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department who serve as security officers and courtroom bailiffs. Many of them are retired law enforcement officers.
Chek noted the upgrade is overdue.
"We have needed to do this for quite a while," she said.
Details on the request for proposal were not yet available as of Friday afternoon.
Commissioners also approved the purchase of 25 portable radios and accessories for use by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
County Administrator John Klee explained there is an anticipated cost of $35,000, with the county hoping to use a grant for the purchase. He noted they have to purchase Kenwood equipment, which is available only through one dealer in West Virginia.
They also approved the promotion of Hugh Tate from sergeant to the rank of lieutenant in the Sheriff’s Department, effective Friday.
Other items approved by the commission included a resolution in support of the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle; the purchase of a 2026 Ram 250 for the maintenance staff from Kufleitner Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Boardman, Ohio, for $48,000, with Commissioner Tommy Ogden noting it was the lowest bid; and the acceptance of the resignation of Jeanne Amidon from the Hancock County Parks and Recreation Board, effective Aug. 24.
Commissioners also agreed to move the time and date of three upcoming meetings.
The meetings previously set for 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, Oct. 22 and Nov. 12 will now be held at 9 a.m. on Oct. 9, Oct. 23 and Nov. 13.
The commission previously had made similar adjustments for the regular August and September meetings.
