Marshall County 2026 Fall Dumpster Cleanup To Begin Oct. 2

Separate Electronics Recycling Event is Oct. 10

MOUNDSVILLE - Marshall County residents wanting to clean out their basements, garages or even land of unwanted household items will soon be able to do so during the upcoming Marshall County Solid Waste Authority 2026 Fall Dumpster Cleanup.

The annual event begins in October and allows residents to get rid of their unwanted household items at sites where Dumpsters are located across the county. Dumpsters will be at the following sites between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.:

The 12th Street girls softball field, Moundsville, Oct. 2-3;

Glen Dale City Garage, Oct. 2-3;

Benwood City Maintenance Garage, Oct. 9-10;

McMechen old football field, Oct. 9-10;

Hilltop Elementary, Sherrard, Oct. 24;

U.S. 250 VFD Headquarters, Limestone, Oct. 24;

VFD Headquarters, Roberts Ridge, Nov. 7; and

Cameron Elementary School, Nov. 7.

While household items can be disposed of there are other items that cannot be taken including: household trash, tires, scrap metal, car parts, hazardous chemicals or materials, or white goods such as refrigerators, washers and dryers and ovens.

A separate Electronics Recycle event is slated to occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the John Marshall High School parking lot. During this event items that will be taken include tires 17 inches and smaller, white goods, electronics, computers, air conditioners, humidifiers and dehumidifiers. However, TVs will not be accepted.

Howard Coffield, director of the Marshall County Solid Waste Authority, said residents can put their TVs out with their regular household garbage in West Virginia. They may need to call their trash pickup company ahead of time to schedule the TV pickup.

Coffield also noted that the Fall Dumpster Cleanup is highly used by many residents each year.

"We get a lot of comment that it's one of the best services we have for the county," he said.

Coffield estimated that about 250 tons are collected during the fall cleanups. And during the E Recycle between 2,500 and 3,000 tires are collected.

"The electronic recycle probably collects two tons every spring and fall," he added.

The cleanups are an important service to provide because it helps residents clear out their properties of unwanted trash.

"It's not in the ditches and hollows," he said of the trash. "We appreciate residents of Marshall County using this service to help clean up their properties."

The annual hazardous waste cleanup was held this past April at the Covestro plant parking lot. Coffield said the free event is held annually on the third Saturday in April and is open to residents of Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler counties in West Virginia and Monroe County, Ohio.
