MOUNDSVILLE -- The Marshall County Commission recognized the efforts of those striving to recover from drug, alcohol and gambling addictions during a recent meeting.

Elizabeth Eakle of WV Recovery asked the commissioners to adopt a resolution recognizing the “Marshall County Goes Purple” effort. Residents are encouraged to wear purple clothing and display purple ribbons or lights during September to show support for those working toward recovery from addiction, she said.

According to the proclamation adopted by the commission, National Recovery Month aims to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders while celebrating people in recovery.

“The proclamation being signed today by Marshall County is more than words on paper. It is a statement that this community stands behind individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder and believes that recovery is possible,” she said.

“This movement is proof that when West Virginians come together with compassion and purpose, we can change lives, strengthen communities and show the nation what it truly means to be Mountaineer strong.”

The commissioners thanked Eakle for her efforts, adding that nearly everyone knows someone who has struggled with addiction or is working toward recovery.
