David Wood Named 2026 Marshall County Christmas Parade Marshal

MOUNDSVILLE — David Wood, a lifelong resident of Marshall County, has been named the 2026 grand marshal for the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce’s Marshall County Chamber Christmas Parade.
The parade, presented by Unified Bank, will take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 21 on Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville.
"We are extremely pleased to have David Wood serve as this year's Grand Marshal," said Scott Reager, executive director of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce. "David has spent decades investing in our community, particularly in the lives of our children and young people. What makes David especially deserving of this honor is that his service to Marshall County didn't end when he retired. He continued giving his time, experience and knowledge to the community he has called home his entire life."
Wood has dedicated much of his life to serving his community. His commitment to Marshall County began during his distinguished career in education and continued well beyond his retirement. Throughout his career, Wood served the children, families and communities of Marshall County in numerous educational leadership roles, including superintendent of schools, assistant superintendent, principal at Washington Lands and Central elementary schools, and teacher and principal at Boggs Run.
During his career with the Marshall County Schools, Wood served in numerous leadership roles and made a lasting impact on local education. He began his career as a sixth-grade teacher at Central Elementary and went on to serve as a principal and administrator before becoming superintendent of schools. Following his retirement, Wood continued his commitment to education, serving as an adjunct professor at Bethany College, supervising student teachers, serving as interim chairman of the Education Department, and continuing to work as a substitute teacher, principal and tutor.
Wood is a graduate of West Liberty State College, where he earned a bachelor of arts in education, and holds a master's degree in educational administration from West Virginia University. He has also completed additional coursework in effective schools and leadership through West Virginia University and Marshall University.
His commitment to the community extends well beyond his professional career. Wood helped create Kids Kollege while at Central School and helped organize and implement the Marshall County Elementary Spelling Bee. He has volunteered for numerous educational and community activities, including Marshall County Math Day, Kids Kollege and various school programs. He continues to volunteer his time judging Science Fairs, Social Studies Fairs and Literature Fairs.
Wood was also nominated twice for West Virginia Principal of the Year, recognizing his dedication and leadership in education.
Parade applications and sponsorship information will be available beginning Oct. 1. Businesses, organizations, families and community groups are encouraged to participate. Additional information regarding the parade route, entries, sponsorship opportunities and this year's parade theme will be announced at a later date by the chamber.
