Lights of Hope to Shine in Moundsville

MOUNDSVILLE -- The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Lights of Hope Display is slated to appear from 5-9 p.m. today at the Marshall County Courthouse.

Karen Coffield, volunteer with the Marshall County Relay For Life, said there will be more than 300 luminaries set up around the courthouse.

“The Cancer Action Network is the advocacy branch of the American Cancer Society. Participants register and donate money which is used to advocate with the federal and state lawmakers to pass bills that assist cancer patients,” she said. “The members are also given the opportunity to text, email and phone their lawmakers when support for bills is needed.

“This year our Marshall County CAN has received a generous sponsorship from the Wolf Run Presbyterian Church as well as ongoing sponsorship from the Limestone Presbyterian Women. There will be more than 300 luminaries displayed because of this generosity.

“The luminaries are dedicated in honor of survivors and in memory of those lost to cancer. The display will be in the fountain area of the courthouse lawn.”

She added that the group will take its display to Charleston for the West Virginia Lights of Hope on Sept. 27.

If it rains this evening, the display will happen on Saturday instead.
