Moundsville Shoppers Line Up to Get ‘Good Stuff Cheap’ At New Ollie’s Store

MOUNDSVILLE — People waited outside in line to find “Good Stuff Cheap” during the new Ollie’s store grand opening on Wednesday morning in Moundsville.
The store is located at 1230 Lafayette Ave. in the former Big Lots space in the Moundsville Shopping Plaza located off W.Va. 2.
The first 500 people into the store who signed up for the loyalty program were offered an Ollie’s goodie bag with a free T-shirt and calendar.
Inside, people browsed the aisles to see what was in stock and take advantage of any special deals they liked.
Ollie’s describes itself as a “retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory.” Some of the goods include seasonal decor, home decor and bedding, toys, books, art supplies, hygiene items, cleaning solutions, furniture, mattresses, rugs, flooring, clothing and more.
Moundsville resident Brenda Robbins said she was glad to have an Ollie’s closer to home to shop at.
“I think it’s great. I love the one in St. Clairsville so I couldn’t wait for this one to open,” she said.
Robbins noted there are a variety of items she likes to purchase from Ollie’s including batteries and snacks.
“Rugs; I’ve gotten all my rugs from Ollie’s,” she added.
The store’s hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy was happy to see another new business open in the city.
“Any new business that opens in the city is good, and we appreciate them all,” he said. “Ollie's is unique in that it fills the space left by a somewhat comparable store - Big Lots. Filling a huge space is always a challenge, so we were thrilled when we learned about Ollie's. I heard the store was very busy this morning, and I expect that to continue.
“This is another location to purchase many different kinds of products, and will draw people to Moundsville from neighboring areas. This will have a very positive impact on our Business & Occupation Tax and our Municipal Sales Tax.”
