By JOSELYN KING 2 min read

WELLSBURG - The tale of Ichabod Crane and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" will be front and center when the Freeland Farm hosts an autumn and Halloween-inspired tea in October.

"The Sleepy Hollow Tea and Cocoa Event" is set for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the farm, located at 2470 Windy Hill Road, Wellsburg, near the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. Tea and cocoa will certainly be served alongside baked goods. Participants also will receive a pumpkin in which they may place flowers or paint and place decals.

Participants are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes. The tale of the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" will also be acted out during the tea.

There is space for as many as 25 to attend, and reservations are required. Those interested in attending should contact Renel Hemmerling at the farm at 219-229-3743.The cost to attend is $40, which includes the pumpkin, paint, flowers, decals, tea and baked goods, according to Hemmerling.

This is the first time a Halloween-themed event has been held at the farm.

"We have had different tea parties, and we have done different tea services with flower arranging," she said. "This is also going to be more theatrical in that we're going to be doing 'Sleepy Hollow' in costume, and we think the cocoa bar will bring the kids in."

The option of either flower arranging in the pumpkin or painting it with decals was also thought to make the event more "kid friendly," she noted

"It's a fun thing to do in fall," Hemmerling said. "You can take in the views at the farm and are welcome to walk around. It's a nice time of year to get out of the house."

She said during the Christmas season the farm will be taking its jams to Christmas bazaars and craft shows.

In the spring, a Mother's Day tea is being planned with an "Alice in Wonderland" theme.
