McMECHEN -- The inaugural Harvest Festival is slated to take place Saturday at Riverview Park, 621 Grant St., McMechen.
The day will begin at noon and feature food trucks, dozens of vendors selling a variety of wares, free pumpkin painting for children, and more until 6 p.m. Starting at 2 p.m. live music will be played until 9 p.m. There will also be a bonfire at dusk in the park’s new fire pit built by Councilman Randy Brautigan.
Musician Paige Williams of McMechen will perform from 2-5 p.m. and the New Age Adenas will perform from 6-9 p.m.
The event was organized by the McMechen Recreation Committee. Member Danielle Kobasko said there will be more than 50 local vendors selling a variety of products, treats and homemade items. There will also be six food trucks to choose from selling savory dishes, sweet treats and drinks.
Kobasko said her husband, Tyler Kobasko, is the son of the city’s new mayor, David Kobasko. She said the mayor has been working hard to improve the city and she wanted to contribute to his effort with the festival.
“We’re so excited for the Ohio Valley to have something like this in a town that hasn’t hosted something in a long time,” she said. “My husband was born in McMechen and the community has become part of my life. … The mayor is giving McMechen a fresh start. I’ve met so many wonderful people there. The town is full of pride and proud of their town. We wanted to help create opportunities for people to make memories.”
“He’s trying to make McMechen great again by cleaning up areas and giving back to the community,” she added. “It’s awesome to watch him take the lead and give back to the community. This is just a stepping stone to make it better.”
Additional entertainment will include the Axe Hole mobile axe throwing station, Smiley Ann Photo Van, face painting, Goode Shot Golf simulator, and fall mini photo sessions available for $10 by Billick Photography. There will also be cardio drumming from 3:30-4:15 p.m.
McMechen’s Riverview Park features a picnic shelter, stage, basketball court, playground and some mature trees that provide shade. Kobasko said the park provides beautiful views of the Ohio River and of sunsets as well.
