Ohio Valley Businesses Show Off at Technology Showcase Thursday

WHEELING – Several businesses from the Ohio Valley got together under one roof to display what they can do at the Technology Showcase in the American Legion Post #1 Thursday.
The companies, whether tech-focused or not, each had employees ready to talk to people about the type of services they can offer and what they may be doing to stay advanced in an increasingly tech-focused age.
Yahn Technology, one of the five companies present at the showcase, specializes in low-voltage electric installations such as fire alarm systems, home security and electronic locks. They had examples of devices they sell on display, with a fire alarm panel on a table and a lock system which required a keyfob to activate.
People could look at and interact with any of the items on display at the showcase, including a large commercial photo printer and an online cybersecurity system example. Roughly 50 people attended the event.
While those in attendance could look at and talk to businesses present, not everyone there just wanted to talk. Some were looking for tech solutions for their own business, some wanted to see what's new in West Virginia's tech landscape, while others wanted to look for jobs.
One such person, Ernie Zavala, said he wanted to learn where he could apply himself at each company.
"It's important I put myself out there and see where my services may be needed," Zavala said. The 24-year-old college student is pursuing a degree in accounting and said he'd be interested in taking on tech companies such as those at the showcase as clients, if needed.
He also has an interest in international accounting, which he said can be important for foreign companies who may want to find a presence in the U.S.
"A big example would be something like a tech company or even something like Nippon Steel," Zavala said. "If they decide to go to West Virginia or even anywhere in the U.S., they need to know how to be in compliance with accounting standards."
Chip Calissie, president of Omni Strategic Technologies, who was present at the showcase, said events like these are important to show people who's behind the essential services and products often working in the background of a business.
"The technology showcase gives local business owners a chance to meet the people behind the tools and services that keep their organizations connected, secure and visible," Calissie said. "We are proud to take part alongside our fellow Ohio Valley companies."
Items were also given away as part of the showcase toward the end.
