MOUNDSVILLE -- Republican Don DeWitt defeated Democrat Cody Cumpston during the House of Delegates District 6 seat race on Tuesday.

According to unofficial General Election vote totals, DeWitt received 2,561 votes while Cumpston received 2,480 votes.

“I’m surprised by the results and I’m humbled by the votes,” DeWitt said at the Marshall County Courthouse. “My opponent ran a great race. It was very competitive. A very tight race. But I’m happy to be on top and ready to get to work.”

DeWitt said there is a lot he wants to do as a delegate.

“I’m only one vote in a 100, but anything I can do to make life easier here for the citizens of District 6 that’s what I want to work on.”

The seat is currently held by Delegate Jeff Stephens, R-Marshall, but Stephens fell to DeWitt in the May GOP primary.
