WEIRTON — As the projects to expand the treatment capacity of Weirton's water and wastewater treatment plants near completion, city utility customers will begin to see an increase in their bills. WPD Investigates Death On Wheeling Island The Wheeling Police Department is investigating a death on Wheeling Island, according to spokesman Philip Stahl. Around 7:40 a.m. Friday, Wheeling Police were called to the 300 block of South Huron Street on Wheeling Island for a report of an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk. When officers and fire department personnel arrived, the man was confirmed to be dead. Foul play is not suspected. Report: Ohio Housing Gap Growing

The National Low Income Housing Coalition, or NLIHC, released its annual report on the affordable housing shortage with Ohio coming in with a shortage of 266,000 affordable and available units. The Gap report found that about half of the state’s renters are paying more than they can sustainably afford to stay housed. The Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, or COHHIO, joined with the NLIHC in releasing the report, highlighting the state’s 422,000 “extremely” low-income renters who earn less than $33,000 annually for families of four.
