NEW CUMBERLAND — Voters in Hancock County, West Virginia overwhelmingly showed support for two levies in Tuesday’s election. According to unofficial results, the county’s new levy in support of the Hancock County Animal Shelter received approval from 68.55% of voters, with 2,955 voting for the levy and 1,356 voting against. The levy, designed to raise $300,000 per year over a four-year period, was approved by commissioners to go before voters last November. Traubert, Newton, Paris Set For Brooke School Board Seats

WELLSBURG — The current president of the Brooke County Board of Education will not return for another term. According to unofficial results Tuesday, incumbents Kristin Newton and Stacy Paris will be joined by newcomer Michael Traubert when the board begins its next fiscal year in July. Newton, from the Follansbee District, received the highest number of votes with 1,399, or 26.28%, followed by Traubert from the Wellsburg District with 1,315. NEW CUMBERLAND — Change is guaranteed on the Hancock County Commission after Tuesday's primary voting. Ronnie Jones, the former Weirton councilman and state delegate, defeated incumbent Commissioner Eron Chek in the Republican primary. According to unofficial results from the Hancock County Board of Elections, Jones collected 1,779 votes, while Chek finished with 489 votes. WHEELING – Several candidates on ballots across the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia cruised to easy victories Tuesday night as they ran unopposed. Those securing party nominations during the primary will appear on the ballots again during the general election in November. Most will face political opponents in partisan races, while some will once again face no opposition during the general election in the fall. Jeff Davis captured a seat on the Tyler County Commission, defeating Steven Weigle on Tuesday in the Republican primary. There was no Democratic candidate, so Davis will advance. Davis, a lifelong Tyler County resident, recently retired as treasurer and chief school business officer for the Tyler County Board of Education.
