STEUBENVILLE -- A man was arrested late Wednesday near Wintersville in connection with a murder in Arkansas more than 22 years ago, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reported.
The U.S. Marshals Service Mountain State Fugitive Task Force, working with detectives from the Searcy, Ark., Police Department, tracked down Brandon L. Wheeler, 41, of Weatherford, Texas, to a trailer park off Two Ridge Road, the sheriff's department reported.
Wheeler was taken into custody and brought to the sheriff's department.
Wheeler, according to an arrest warrant, is charged with capital murder and abuse of a corpse. The murder allegedly occurred on Sept. 30, 1994, in White County, Ark. Jarrod Green was listed as the victim.
According to the North American Missing Persons Network, Green, 20 at the time of his disappearance, received a phone call to meet a friend at a country club. His car reportedly was found in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Searcy two days later. The windows were rolled down and the keys were laying on the floor board, but there was no sign of any struggle.
Prior to his disappearance, Green reportedly had indicated he was in trouble over a money issue, possibly related to drugs.
The arrest warrant for Wheeler was issued on April 6 by a judge in White County, Ark.
The sheriff's department reported Wheeler had been in this area working in the oil and gas industry. A deputy reported Wheeler was interviewed for several hours by the Searcy, Ark., police detectives and placed in the jail.
