Partial Building Collapse Discovered

Photo by Alec Berry The upper back end of 1056 Main St. showed signs of partial collapse today. The building, formerly the 1056 Lounge and Yesterday's Draught House and Stage, had been marked condemned by the City of Wheeling. A blockade protected an area of debris behind the building. According to Wheeling Police and Fire spokesman Philip Stahl, neither department responded to an any incident at the building. A cause and time of collapse was unknown today.

WHEELING — City officials said they do not know when a portion of a building at 1056 Main St. in downtown Wheeling collapsed.

The upper back end of the building was affected. The building was formerly the location of two clubs — the 1056 Lounge and Yesterday’s Draught House and Stag. The building had been condemned earlier.

Most of the debris fell into the alley behind the structure.

It is believed the heavy rainfall Friday night and today may have led to the collapse.
