West Virginia Division of Highways Outlines Road Repair Priorities in Wetzel, Tyler Counties

WHEELING -- When the West Virginia Department of Transportation on Tuesday released lists of secondary roads in need of repair across the state, two Northern Panhandle counties were missing from the tally: Wetzel and Tyler.
On Wednesday, however, lists ranking maintenance priorities for roads in the two counties were available on the department's website. The lists, compiled by Division of Highways officials across West Virginia, are available online at transportation.wv.gov.
For Wetzel County, the list states the road in most need of repair is U.S. 250, which requires slip repairs and paving in certain sections. Following that is W.Va. 20, Furbee Ridge Road, W.Va. 69 and Limestone Ridge Road.
Those roads are all in need of slip repairs and paving work, according to the DOH document.
In Tyler County, the No. 1 priority is W.Va. 74, which needs slip repairs in one section and ditching, paving and culvert replacements in another section. Following that road on the list are sections of W.Va. 180, W.Va. 2, Big Run Road and W.Va. 18.
Those roads require a variety of work including slip repairs, ditching, paving and replacing culverts in different sections.
On Tuesday, lists available on the site for DOH District 6, which covers the Northern Panhandle, included Brooke, Hancock, Marshall and Ohio counties. Handwritten notes provided for Wetzel and Tyler counties did not include road priorities and were barely legible.
The road in most need of maintenance in Ohio County is Dixon Run, and in Brooke County it is Three Springs Drive, according to the list. Hancock County's highest priority road is Washington School Road while Marshall County's is Fork Ridge Road and 12th Street in Moundsville.
The full lists available online rank maintenance needs for around 50 to 80 roads in each county.
Neither District 6 Engineer David Brabham nor DOT spokesman Brent Walker could be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon regarding the delay for Wetzel and Tyler counties' lists.
"It is the DOH's goal to address as many of these maintenance concerns as possible," a press release from the department reads.
