Peebles Stores in Moundsville and New Martinsville To Become Gordmans
MOUNDSVILLE — The Peebles stores in Moundsville and New Martinsville aren’t closing, but they will get a new name next year.
Both stores will be converted into Gordmans stores in the spring of 2020, according to Blakeley Graham, manager of brand publicity for Stage company.
Stage operates 650 stores in 42 states under the Peebles, Gordmans, Bealls, Palais Royal, Stage, and Goody’s nameplates.
“Stage has been converting a number of its Peebles stores because consumers are responding positively to Gordmans’ off-price offerings,” Graham said. “Gordmans is an off-price retailer, which means that it has a wide array of merchandise for the entire family at the lowest possible prices compared to department stores. Gordmans, which has been delighting shoppers for more than 100 years, has fresh, new merchandise deliveries arriving weekly. There will always be something new to discover when it comes to popular name brand apparel — home decor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and more for the whole family.”
There are plans to close the local Peebles stores “for less than two weeks” in the days leading up to the Gordmans grand openings in the spring, and all current Peebles associates will be offered jobs at Gordmans. Additional associates also will be hired during a job fair early next year.
The Stage company’s history dates back to the 1920s with the opening of the Bealls and Palais Royal stores in Texas. The company entered the off-price segment with its acquisition of Gordmans in 2017, and last year began testing the conversion of department stores to Gordmans off-price stores.
This year, Stage announced long-term strategy to convert department stores to Gordmans off-price stores mostly in small mid-west markets, with a goal of reaching 300 total off-price stores by mid-2020.
