‘Ideal’ Thanksgiving Dinner Planned for Homeless

The Ideal Provisions food truck will be in Wheeling on Tuesday when owner/chef Dean Barath will prepare Thanksgiving dinners for area homeless.

WHEELING — Thanksgiving dinner will come early next week for some folks who don’t ordinarily gather around a table with others.

Dean Barath, owner of Ideal Provisions food truck, is preparing a complete Thanksgiving menu to feed the homeless in the Wheeling area. Barath and the Greater Wheeling Coalition for the Homeless are working in tandem to make it happen.

Barath will have his food truck stationed in the coalition’s parking lot at 84 15th St. in East Wheeling, where meals will be dished out from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday. The homeless coalition will open its doors and provide a space for people to dine. The meals will be in take-out containers if someone would rather not go inside and eat, said Lisa Badia, executive director of the Wheeling Homeless Coalition.

“We will have a warm, clean place for people to come in and clean up a bit if they choose and then enjoy their meal,” Badia said.

Volunteers and coalition workers will lend a hand to bring about a positive experience during the dinner.

Badia said she is thankful for the generosity of Barath whose very successful food truck has been serving up barbecue, burgers and a host of other delicious foods in the Ohio Valley for some time now.

The food truck can routinely be found at 210 Willow St. in Bridgeport.

“I’m grateful for people like the Baraths who, completely on their own, birthed the idea to help others in this way,” Badia added.

Barath said he will be preparing a complete dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert.

“We will feed as many as we can — maybe up to 100 people,” Barath said.
