BROOKSIDE -- A multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 70 sent two people to the hospital Sunday evening.
Trooper Mike Grant of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the accident took place in the eastbound lanes at 4:39 p.m. near the Bridgeport exit. Grant said the accident was due to the construction leading into Bridgeport, where traffic was at a standstill.
According to Grant, a tractor-trailer crested the hill and was unable to slow down. The tractor-trailer struck a vehicle that was in stopped traffic, and that vehicle then struck another vehicle.
“Two people in the first vehicle that was hit by the truck were taken to Wheeling Hospital,” Grant said.
The individuals had minor injuries and were released from the hospital Sunday night, he said.
Both Interstate 70 eastbound lanes were closed for approximately 30 minutes Sunday evening, Grant said. Interstate 70 eastbound was down to one-lane for around an hour, he added.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited by law enforcement for the accident.
“He (truck driver) was cited for ACDA, assured clear distance ahead,” Grant said.
About 70 feet of skid marks leading up to the crash site, he said, showed where the truck had attempted to stop.
