A husband and wife from Marshall County have tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, Marshall County Health officials confirmed Saturday.
The couple are in their 60s, and currently are quarantined in their home. They are reporting mild symptoms and are having their temperature checked daily by medical professionals, Marshall County Health Department Administrator Tom Cook said.
Cook did not say how the couple may have contracted the virus.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services reported the positive cases earlier Saturday.
Cook said the couple were tested at a local testing center. He said his office is currently working to identify everyone that has had close contact with them — friends, family members and health care professionals.
Cook said those who have been in close contact will undergo testing and then be quarantined in their homes for 14 days from the last date of contact.
There are now 11 confirmed cases in West Virginia, according to the DHHR — Jackson (1), Jefferson (2), Kanawha (1), Marshall (2), Mercer (2), Monongalia (1), Tucker (2).
These are the first confirmed cases in the Northern Panhandle. Previously, two cases had been reported in Belmont County and also a case in Washington County, Pa.
