WHEELING -- Cecilea Moore sees the beauty in Ohio County communities, and wants it to be enhanced.
She also wants a fire and law enforcement training center in the county so first responders don't have to go elsewhere for training.
Moore, 28, is a first-time candidate who has filed as a Republican in the race for Ohio County commissioner.
She is a mother of four, and has been a volunteer firefighter in Triadelphia for nearly a decade. Moore also is a member of the Ohio County Virtual Lions, and is an employee at the Kroger pharmacy in Warwood.
She said beautification is something in which the county should concentrate.
"There are so many areas we could do so much with," she said. "With an emphasis on each, we could make this county amazing.
"I would also like to work toward us getting a training center for public safety. I want the people protecting us trained and ready for protection."
She said repairing infrastructure also would be a priority for her. County water lines are aging, she said, and it isn't unusual for them to break and cause interruption in service.
"We also need to put a focus back to the Ohio County Airport," Moore said. "It has so many benefits, and it's not reaching its full potential. So many people don't know it is there."
Then there's the former county farm property. It is a large property with a lot of open space and potential for improvement, she said.
"The shelter at the Middle Creek Dam is falling in on itself," she said. "There has been no care or upkeep, and it was always a wonderful addition to the community. There's a hole in the roof, and the outhouses are falling apart."
She said Ohio County has many "wonderful people," and she is running to represent them.
"The commissioners did a wonderful job with The Highlands," she said. "I want us to keep progressing forward, and for everything to benefit the citizens of the community."
