Suspect, Victim ID’d in Mac’s Club Shooting
Lesane
WHEELING — Wheeling police have identified the suspect and victim in the fatal shooting over the weekend at Mac’s Club in the city.
In a press conference Monday, police identified Darrell Glenn Lesane Jr., 27, of Wheeling, as the suspect in the Saturday morning shooting that killed Donaven J. White.
Warrants charging Lesane with murder have been issued for his arrest.
Police said White, 24, of Coshocton, died in the shooting at Mac’s Club at 89 Edgington Lane about 2 a.m. Saturday. White, formerly of Wheeling, was taken to Wheeling Hospital, where he died of the gunshot wound, police said.
Several other people at the club suffered minor injuries, which Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said likely occurred in the melee immediately after the shooting.
Schwertfeger said detectives spent countless hours poring over eyewitness and video evidence to identify Lesane in the days since the shooting. He did not immediately ascribe a possible motive or prior relationship between the two men.
“This tragic incident that occurred Saturday morning is the first homicide in the city of Wheeling of 2020,” Schwertfeger said. “… There is much work that remains. It would be premature and irresponsible of me to speak about motive or to go into great detail.”
Schwertfeger said Lesane is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a black male, with black hair and brown eyes, around 5’7″ in height and 150 pounds.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Wheeling police at 304-234-3664 or submit a crime tip at wheelingwv.gov/crimetip.
Schwertfeger credited the quick identification of Lesane to detectives Andy Adams, Billy Castilow and Sgt. Rob Safreed.
