Ohio County COVID-19 cases top 100 since pandemic’s start; currently 28 active
On Friday, the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department said there are three new positive cases of COVID-19 in Ohio County. Currently, the health department reports 102 positive cases, including one death. Case surveillance contact tracing and monitoring continues for many of the reported cases.
Of those 102 total cases, 28 currently are active and 74 have recovered, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio County has recorded the ninth-highest number of total cases in West Virginia, according to the DHHR. Counties with more total cases as of Thursday are Berkeley, 443; Kanawha, 324; Jefferson, 229; Monongalia, 179; Randolph, 161; Jackson, 143; Cabell, 136; and Wayne, 114.
The local health department also continues to monitor an outbreak of COVID-19 at the First Baptist Church. At this time, the health department has identified 15 direct cases and 6 indirect cases of COVID-19 linked to the church. The church leadership is working with the health department to ensure all people exposed have been contacted and tested.
