MORRISTOWN -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the name of the man who died Wednesday night in a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 70.
Joseph Davis, 43, of Xenia, Ohio, died after the tractor-trailer he was driving hit another tractor-trailer in front of him.
It occurred after another, separate accident had occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-70.
The driver of the other tractor-trailer that was struck, Leon Landaverde, was not injured, but his wife, Carla Landaverde, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Brian McFarland.
McFarland said he did not know what precipitated the fatal accident, but traffic was slowed because of the first unrelated accident.
"He couldn't stop in time," he said of Davis.
The OSP was on the scene of the accident for more than three hours. The accidents forced the closure of the interstate during that time.
McFarland said, in general, motorists should be extra careful while navigating the road following traffic accidents.
"It's natural to want to look when you see cop cars and ambulances, but the driver needs to be aware of their surroundings. And do not try to take pictures as you're driving. I don't want to call it rubbernecking, but they're not paying attention to what's ahead of them," he said.
The accidents occurred between Morristown and Barnesville.
