Second Person Dies of COVID-19 in Ohio County
WHEELING — A second person has died of COVID-19 in Ohio County, health officials announced Saturday.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department did not identify the victim, but said the person had been hospitalized at the time of death.
It’s the first coronavirus fatality in the county since April 13, when a 69-year-old man died of the COVID-19 disease.
But Ohio County has seen a surge of new coronavirus cases over the past three weeks as the number of cases has more than doubled.
The county has reported 38 new cases since Wednesday, bringing the total number to 144 since the pandemic began.

Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department announced 19 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Ohio County on Saturday and Sunday. The health department has reported a total of 144 positive cases, including two deaths. Marshall County announced four new cases Saturday, bringing the total in that county to 73.
