Body Found Along U.S. 250 in Harrison County
STOCK TOWNSHIP — The body of a female adult was discovered along a roadway early Wednesday morning near Tappan Lake.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert Bodo said the body was discovered by a passerby at approximately 7:30 a.m. along U.S. 250 in Stock Township near the lake.
“911 received the call about 7:39 this (Wednesday) morning of a body laying along U.S. 250,” he said.
The body was discovered along the eastbound lane between the guardrail and the roadway, he said. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department was the first agency to arrive on the scene, followed by the patrol.
Bodo said although the woman had no identification on her person, it appears she is in her early 30s.
“We found some items alongside the roadway that we believe belong to her, but no photo ID was in there,” he said.
Bodo said various items of clothing and a handbag were recovered near where the body was found.
The patrol was following up on leads in an effort to identify the woman Wednesday, he said.
Officials are unsure how the body ended up on the roadway at this point in the investigation.
“We’re not sure if she was struck while she was standing alongside U.S. 250 or the possibility that she may have been ejected out of a moving vehicle,” Bodo said. “That’s all being investigated right now.”
The incident remains under investigation by the patrol.
The discovery led to the temporary closure of U.S. 250 outside Cadiz to allow for for the police investigation. Traffic was diverted to an alternate route while law enforcement investigated the death. The roadway was reopened to traffic around 1 p.m.
