Third Marshall County Resident Succumbs To COVID-19

WHEELING — The Marshall County Health Department received confirmation Monday of the third death of a Marshall County resident from COVID-19 — a 77-year-old male that had been hospitalized on a ventilator.

“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of another Marshall County resident associated with COVID-19. The thoughts and prayers of the staff at the Health Department and all county offices are with the family and friends of this gentleman during this difficult time,” the health department said in a statement.

Also Monday, Marshall County Schools announced that John Marshall High School and Moundsville Middle School will be closed and students will operate under remote learning conditions until Oct. 26 due to COVID-19.

Moundsville Middle School has seen two new cases of COVID-19 since Friday, while John Marshall has seen five new cases over the past 10 days. School officials cited the COVID numbers in announcing the temporary closures.

All other schools in Marshall County will continue to operate as normal at Level 2 learning, which sees in-person schooling four days a week, with Wednesday being remote learning while the schools are sanitized.

Marshall County was “gold” in Saturday’s West Virginia Department of Education COVID-19 school map. That means the county can hold in-person classes but that sporting events can only take place against schools within the county or other counties that are gold.
