Ohio County moves to ‘orange’ on Thursday COVID-19 map

Following the announcement late Wednesday of 59 new COVID-19 positive cases, Ohio County moved back into the “orange” Thursday morning on the daily West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 county alert map.

This is important not only to signify the continued rising infection and percent positivity rates in Ohio County, but also because if the county is orange or red on Saturday’s West Virginia Department of Education school re-entry map, it would mean an end to the season for Wheeling Park’s and Wheeling Central’s high school football seasons.

Ohio County, based on the Thursday map, is red when it comes to the infection rate, with 64.86 cases per 100,000 residents, based on a seven-day average. The percent positivity is 5.04 percent, just above the gold level that ends at 4.99 percent.

Marshall County has a seven-day infection rate of 67.85, and a percent positivity of 6.75.
