Ohio, Marshall counties ‘orange’ on school map; football season ends for Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central, John Marshall
Students in Ohio and Marshall counties will be on remote learning next week, as both counties are orange in Saturday’s West Virginia Department of Education COVID-19 school re-entry map.
Along with remote learning, the orange classification also means that Wheeling Park High School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School and John Marshall High School will see their high school football seasons come to an abrupt end. All three schools were scheduled to play Sunday in the opening round of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission’s football playoffs, but those games are now forfeit due to COVID-19.
Park had been scheduled to host Princeton at Wheeling Island Stadium. Wheeling Central had been scheduled to travel to St. Marys, while John Marshall would have traveled to Cabell Midland to face the state’s top team.
A handful of other teams also saw their seasons end Saturday including Parkersburg, Williamstown, Hurricane, Buffalo, Tug Valley, Poca and Ripley.
