A site plan review for the proposed facility is scheduled to come before members of the Wheeling Planning Commission tonight. The Planning Commission is slated to meet at 5 p.m. today in city council chambers at the City-County Building. Tonight's monthly meeting for June will be the first Planning Commission meeting to take place since April, as last month's regularly scheduled meeting was canceled because of a lack of business.
However, a full agenda awaits members of the Planning Commission tonight.
The Wheeling Housing Authority is proposing a plan for new construction on the former site of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The property has been vacant since the previous structure was destroyed by fire.
The proposal calls for the construction of a 4,700-foot community center and maintenance building at 99 Main St. in North Wheeling.
City staff in the Building and Planning Department are recommending approval of the site plan, which is designed to bring a new single-story structure to the site. The proposed building is designed to complement the neighborhood, provide nine parking spaces and be situated on a lot that measures approximately 20,000 square feet.
If the site plan is approved, construction of the new community center and maintenance building to serve the North Wheeling Hope VI neighborhood is expected to begin in July.

"We also offer virtual and hands-on educational workshops with a focus on various tech, business and finance-related themes to enhance opportunities for success through direct mentorship."
