WHEELING -- Installation of the turf at Wheeling Park High School's new athletic field will be delayed "by at least two to three weeks" because of manufacturing delays, Ohio County Board of Education members learned this week.

Assistant Superintendent Rick Jones said he visits the field at each week to view the project, and he welcomed board members to join him.

"I did not feel great last week, but I feel really good after today," Assistant Superintendent Rick Jones told board members on Monday. "Today we saw a lot of progress from last week, and it felt really good today when we left.

"Unfortunately, the field got delayed by a couple of weeks. It wasn't due to anyone's fault here or at (contractor) Cast and Baker…. The turf factory -- wherever that is -- has been a little short on labor and materials."

The turf is now expected to arrive Sept. 3, about two to three weeks later than was initially scheduled.

The field is ready for the turf, according to Jones. The press box has been constructed, and restroom units have been ordered.

Asbestos removal has been completed at Bethlehem Elementary School, and now construction can begin at that school, according to Jones.

He said projects at Triadelphia Middle School and Steenrod Elementary "are moving along quite well right now."

"Steenrod's cafeteria floor was just about completed when we were there (last week)," Jones said. "So they're just about done, and will be out of there soon.

"Triadelphia Middle still has work to do. But there are people there, and we are confident they will be done. It's really a great project and the cafeteria is amazing. I'm really happy with that project."
