1 min read

Students at Wheeling Park High School have been evacuated following an unspecified threat to the school. Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said this afternoon that, following a search, the school has been “rendered safe.”

Ohio County Schools communications coordinator Gabe Wells said students were dismissed shortly before noon on the recommendation of law enforcement. A message left with Ohio County Sheriff Thomas Howard was not immediately returned, but Schwertfeger, who was at the scene Friday afternoon, provided a short update.

Earlier Friday, after the threat, students who drove to school were asked to leave and return home in their cars, while those who get picked up by their parents and rise buses were transported to the White Palace at Wheeling Park.

Union Local High School in Belmont County also received a threat this morning. Students there also were moved out of the school and later dismissed.
